Frequently Asked Questions
Is this free?
Sending a music file to your phone is absolutely free.
Just fill out the form, click "Upload", and the ringtone will be sent to your phone. You'll be charged for a standard text message. If you have free text messages, the upload will be free.
Downloading ringtones is another story. That is controlled by a partner site of ours. You will get complimentary ringtones, but there may be a charge for the service.
What's the difference between midi/mp3/qcp/aac/m4a/mmf/wav/amr?
Different phones have different requirements for the format of their ringtones. FunForMobile.com has a good breakdown of the formats:
- MP3: Typically works with most Motorola V series phones (V180, V220, V265, V300, V400, V500, V550, V600, V710, RAZR V3, etc), newer LG phones (A7110, L1400, VX-6000, VX-7000, VX-8000, etc), Sony Z500a and newer Nokia phones (3300, 7610, N-Gage, etc). Some Verizon MMS phones have a size limitation of 30k.
- MP4/AAC/M4A: Typically only works with newer multi-media phones like the Sanyo MM-7400 & Sanyo MM-5600.
- MMF: Typically works with Samsung, LG, NEC & Siemens phones if you DON'T have service with Verizon, Sprint PCS, Qwest, or Bell Mobility.
- QCP: Only works for CDMA phones serviced by Verizon, Sprint PCS, Qwest, or Bell Mobility.
- AMR: Typically works with Motorola, Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Handspring, Sharp & Panasonic phones if you DON'T have service with Sprint PCS, Qwest, or Bell Mobility.
What's the size limit?
2 megabytes.
Will this work with xxxx phone/yyyy carrier?
Honestly, I don't know! New phones are coming out every day; I'd need a team of 3000 people to keep up with them all!!! :)
In all seriousness, though, just try it out. Send yourself a music file, and see if you can save it as a ringtone. If it doesn't work, try changing the format of the file from mp3 -> qcp, etc. Check online to see what formats your phone supports for ringtones. Good luck!
